Direct from the farm, delicious NZ lamb delivered straight to the customer



The Situation

Integrated Foods Limited (IFL) farms 16,000 hectares of highly productive land in the Gisborne region. From a total sheep flock of 110,000 head the company finishes 55,000 lambs annually along with 5,000 head of beef.

Though IFL had established a large and successful lamb and beef business, the stakeholders aspired to move beyond wholesale supply and create high value lamb and beef products for discerning end user customers. To achieve this objective, the company invested in downstream processing, manufacturing and marketing systems. Today, IFL is considered a trailblazer in the development of its ‘value chain’ model – maintaining control and adding value from the paddock right through to delivery to the customer.

With the changes in the meat/food retail environment, as well as the growing trend of online purchasing, IFL saw an opportunity to create its own ‘market direct’ business and so the idea of ‘Lamb Club’ was born.

To execute, IFL needed specialist expertise to create an effective online presence.

IFL already had an established relationship with Olympic Software who had helped them implement Dynamics GP ten years previously. When it came time to consider options for an effective ecommerce platform it was logical to choose to work with Olympic.

The Solution

Olympic’s Trader ecommerce solution had already been proven as an effective platform by other large retail clients. Although IFL’s immediate goals were modest, future goals are far from small and therefore a highly scalable ecommerce platform was needed. In fact the high degree of scalability, ease of customisation, and stability of the Trader ecommerce platform were the main criteria that closed the deal. These benefits meant that the Lamb Club ecommerce platform could grow with IFLs needs and also remain stable when demand increased.

Today, Lamb Club is an easy to use and effective online website that allows IFL’s customers to purchase a whole or half lamb. The purchase process allows the customer to ‘design’ their very own lamb, selecting the cuts they love. Once customers have made their purchase, IFL’s skilled butchers go to work and create their lamb pack before despatching it in a beautiful wooden box direct to the customers door. Also, because the lamb pack has the best cuts, is fridge friendly, and is designed for the BBQ,…. it makes a great corporate or personal gift!

It’s IFLs goal to replicate the old farming tradition of lamb,….select the best lamb, process it, and age for tenderness.
